Winnipeg Goldeyes Infielder Raul Navarro Named Player of the Week
On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Winnipeg Goldeyes infielder Raul Navarro as the American Association Player of the Week for Week 11 of the 2022 season. Navarro hit .522 with six runs scored and five RBI in six games last week.
It was a fantastic week for Raul Navarro, not only because of the impressive performance at the plate, but also because he helped his club go 5-1 during the week. It started off with a three-game series at home against the Chicago Dogs. Winnipeg lost the opening contest of the series, with the Goldeyes infielder going 1-4 in the opener. However, he caught fire from there, going 2-4 with a run scored and a triple in the second game of the series, then went 4-5 with a run, a double, and an RBI to close out the three-game set. Overall, Navarro was 7-13 with two runs scored, two extra-base hits, and an RBI.
Next, the Lake Country DockHounds came to town for a three-game set. Navarro was on fire from the start, going a combined 5-10 with four runs scored, two extra-base hits, and four RBI. In the opening game of the series, he went 1-3 with a run scored and a walk. Then, went 2-3 with a run, a homerun, and two RBI in the second game. On Sunday, the Goldeyes infielder was 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
For the week, Navarro was 12-23 (.522) with six runs scored, two doubles, a triple, a homerun, and five RBI. His .522 batting average led the league, and his .538 on-base percentage was third overall. He posted a 1.364 OPS, which was second overall. Navarro is currently on a 21-game hitting streak, tied for the longest in the American Association this season.
Raul Navarro is in his second season with the Winnipeg Goldeyes. He began his career in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization as an undrafted free agent, signing with Arizona in 2009 out of the Dominican Republic. Navarro spent seven seasons with the Diamondbacks, hitting .261 in 571 games with 280 runs scored and 176 RBI. He played with Vallejo (Pacific League) in 2016, then was out of baseball until 2019 when he returned to San Rafael (Pacific League) where he hit .373. In 2021, Navarro signed with the Goldeyes where he became an instant star, hitting .310 in 88 games with 40 runs scored and 45 RBI. This season he is hitting .336 and 60 games with 43 runs scored and 34 runs driven in.
