Woodworth Homer, Garcia Hurls RailCats to Victory
Nick Garcia allowed one run in 5.0 innings of work and Michael Woodworth hit his first homerun of the season as the Gary SouthShore RailCats defeated the Lake Country DockHounds on Monday, 3-2. Woodworth gave the RailCats the lead in the top of the first when he drilled the first pitch he saw for a two-run blast. Lake Country chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the fourth when a ground out by Lamarr Briggs scored Daikan Yoh.
However, that would be the only run Gary SouthShore could muster against Garcia, who allowed five hits and a walk in 5.0 innings, striking out four to earn his second victory of the year. Each team plated a run in the sixth. The RailCats made it a 3-1 lead on a sacrifice fly by Daniel Lingua and Gio Brusa homered against Josh Vincent in the bottom half of the frame. It was the ninth homerun of the season for Brusa.
That was the lone run allowed by Vincent, who allowed two hits while striking out three in 3.0 innings of relief. Carlos Vega came on in the ninth, striking out Briggs to close out the contest for his second save of the season.
Woodworth finished 3-4 with a run and two RBI. Zach Welz was 2-3 and scored two runs. T.J. Bennett and Gabriel Noriega each had two hits for the DockHounds. Devin Beckley took the loss despite pitching well, allowing three earned runs in 6.0 innings pitched.
