Lake Country DockHounds RHP Bryan Bonnell Named American Association Pitcher of the Week

In today’s edition, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report name Lake Country DockHounds right-hander Bryan Bonnell as the Pitcher of the Week for Week 16 of the 2024 American Association season.
DockHounds RHP Bryan Bonnell Named Pitcher of the Week
On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Lake Country DockHounds right-hander Bryan Bonnell as the Pitcher of the Week for Week 16 of the 2024 season. Bonnell was spectacular, earning two victories while allowing a single run in 14 innings pitched.
Bonnell’s first start was on Monday when he tossed seven shutout innings against the Gary SouthShore RailCats in a 14-1 victory. The right-hander allowed a one-out double in the first then retired 12 straight batters before giving up a one-out hit in the fifth. He allowed one more hit in the sixth. Bonnell allowed three hits and no walks while striking out six in seven innings. Amazingly, Bonnell threw just 73 pitches, 51 for strikes.
On Saturday, Bonnell led his team to a 6-1 victory over the Chicago Dogs, allowing four hits and a run in seven innings. He did not allow a walk and struck out six. The righty allowed two hits in the second and a double in the third. He then retired 13 straight. The streak came to an end with a two-out home run in the bottom of the seventh.
In 14.0 innings, Bonnell allowed just seven hits and no walks while striking out 12, posting a 0.64 ERA. Opponents hit just .143 against the righty and he posted a 0.50 WHIP.
Bryan Bonnell was selected in the 31st round of the 2012 draft by the Chicago Cubs, but did not sign. He was later selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in 36th round of the 2015 draft and went to play rookie ball that first year. In 2016 he moved to Mid-A Bowling Green and reached AAA-Fresno (Washington Nationals) in 2019. In 2021, Bonnell returned to AAA-Rochester where he was 1-3 with a 4.39 ERA in 36 appearances. Last season, the right-hander went to play in Mexico. This season he joined the DockHounds where he has been a key part of the rotation, going 5-6 with a 3.98 ERA in 15 starts.
