Kansas City Monarchs RHP Julian Garcia Named American Association Pitcher of the Week

Monarchs RHP Julian Garcia Named Pitcher of the Week
On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Kansas City Monarchs right-hander Julian Garcia as the Pitcher of the Week for Week 15 of the 2024 season. Garcia was spectacular in his one start, allowing one unearned run in eight innings.
Garcia made his one start on Friday, a 7-3 victory over the Milwaukee Milkmen. The right-hander retired the first 10 batters of the game and retired the minimum through five innings. He held Milwaukee off the scoreboard until the eighth when a passed ball led to the Milkmen’s only run of the game. Garcia left after eight, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out nine. He struck out two in each of the first two innings and struck out at least one in seven of the eight innings.
Julian Garcia was selected in the 10th round of the 2016 draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He reached AAA-Lehigh Valley in 2021. In six seasons, Garcia went 20-29 with a 4.47 ERA in 111 games, including 55 starts. This is his first season with the Monarchs, going 5-1 with a 2.33 ERA. He has tossed 81.0 innings pitched, allowing only 60 hits and 16 walks with 100 strikeouts.
Garcia is the second Monarchs player to be named Pitcher of the Week. Grant Gavin received the honor in Week 6.
