Eldred Dominates, Big Inning Leads Dogs, Mora Tosses Gem

In today’s edition, Rob Pannier recaps the four games in the American Association on Thursday, including the Kane County Cougars shutting out the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, a six-run inning helps the Chicago Dogs prevail, and Kyle Mora tosses a complete game shutout.
Game Recaps for Thursday
Dogs Prevail Behind Big Inning
The Chicago Dogs scored six runs in the top of the sixth to help lead them to an 8-5 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Thursday afternoon. Chicago had trailed by one, shut down through the first five innings by Harrison Francis. However, Francis came out of the sixth and Chicago immediately rallied against Jared Price.
Chicago sent 12 men to the plate, using four hits and four walks to take the lead. The first three batters of the inning all reached on a walk, and Dylan Rosa followed with a single that tied the score at one. The next batter was Luke Mangieri, who doubled into center, scoring two more. An error brought home the fourth run of the inning and a sacrifice fly by Cody Bohanek gave Chicago a four-run advantage. Ryan Lidge closed out the scoring with an RBI single. The RailCats battled back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to the sixth homer of the season by Francisco Del Valle.
However, Chicago this game away, as Josh Altmann hit his 16th home run of the season in the top of the eighth and the Dogs added another run on an error in the ninth. Jonathan Cheshire earned the victory.
Eldred Grounds RedHawks
C.J. Eldred tossed his second consecutive outstanding start, this time combining the two relievers to blank the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, 4-0. Eldred allowed five hits and a walk while striking out seven in seven innings. Two relievers finished off the shutout as the Cougars struck out 10 RedHawks batters in all.
Kane County took the lead in the top of the third on a single to center field by Armond Upshaw. Three innings later, Upshaw came home on an error and the Cougars sealed the victory in the eighth, as Jimmy Kerrigan drew a bases-loaded walk and Pete Kozma followed with a sacrifice fly.
Correlle Prime took the loss for the RedHawks, allowing two runs in six innings. Jonah Davis had two hits for Kane County and Leobaldo Pina had two hits for Fargo-Moorhead.
Mora Sinks Goldeyes
Kyle Mora went the distance, tossing a two-hit shutout to lead the Milwaukee Milkmen to an 11-0 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The red-hot Mora earned his sixth victory of the season, allowing just two singles in the contest.
The offense staked their starter to the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs, then added a run in the third on an RBI single by Roy Morales. In the fourth, Bryan Torres hit a three-run homer, his fifth of the year, and the Milkmen added another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly. Milwaukee closed out the scoring in the seventh, scoring four more runs. Torres added an RBI in the frame when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The infielder finished with four RBI. Morales had four hits and two RBI and Gabriel Cancel had three hits and scored twice. Cam Redding had three RBI.
Explorers Rally to Down Saltdogs
The Sioux City Explorers rallied from a two-run deficit, scoring two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to earn a 4-2 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. Trenton Toplikar earned the win, allowing two runs in 6.0 innings. Sean Rackoski came on in the ninth to earn his 12th save of the season.
The contest was scoreless through the first three innings, but Lincoln took the lead in the top of the fourth when Luke Roskam led off with his 11th home run of the year. Three batters later Nate Samson drove home Will Kengor to extend the lead to two.
Sioux City had no answers for bthrough the first four innings, but got on the board in the fifth when Delvin Zinn hit a one out triple down the line in right field and scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Lloyd. Vince Fernandez followed with a single, stole second, and scored on a single by Tyler Rando. In the sixth, Wilfredo Gimenez doubled with one down and scored on an error. A double by Lloyd closed out the scoring. Lloyd finished with two hits and two RBI.
