Goldeyes Clipped in 14, 4-3
KANSAS CITY, KS – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (31-27) lost 4-3 in 14 innings to the Kansas City T-Bones at T-Bones Stadium on Friday night.
The T-Bones scored the winning run on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the 14th inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Ramsey Romano hit a sharp groundball to Dominic Ficociello at third base. Ficociello made a diving stop and fired to Kevin Garcia at home plate for the force out. Daniel Nava was ruled safe on a close play that ended the game.
Winnipeg took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Reggie Abercrombie hit a two-run home run to left-centre.
The T-Bones (30-27) answered back in the bottom of the inning with three runs. Romano singled home Christian Correa, and after the T-Bones loaded the bases, Dylan Tice walked to force home Mason Davis with the tying run. Shawn O’Malley followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Romano to make it 3-2 T-Bones.
The Goldeyes responded in the next half inning. James Harris doubled down the left field line with one out. Two batters later, Willy Garcia lined a single to centre that scored Harris with the tying run.
The game remained tied at 3-3 until the T-Bones scored in the 14th.
Winnipeg’s bullpen combined for eight and one-third innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits. Tyler Garkow, Joel Bender, Christian Torres, Victor Capellan, and Mitchell Aker all worked more than one inning in relief.
Kansas City’s bullpen combined for eight and one-third scoreless innings without allowing a hit. Robert Calvano (1-2) picked up the win in relief, while Aker (1-2) took the loss for Winnipeg.
Joel Seddon started for the Goldeyes and took a no-decision, allowing three earned runs on four hits in five innings. Seddon walked five and struck out two.
Jose Mesa Jr. started for the T-Bones and also took a no-decision, allowing three earned runs on six hits in five and two-thirds innings. Mesa walked one and struck out four.
Tyler Hill’s 18-game hitting streak came to an end.
The Goldeyes and T-Bones continue their series Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Goldeyes have not yet announced their starting pitcher. The T-Bones go with right-hander Kenny Koplove (2-2, 4.94).
