Game Recaps for Wednesday
Green Dominates as Dogs Even Series
Nick Green allowed one unearned run in 6.2 innings to lead the Chicago Dogs to a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Milkmen. Green was spectacular, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out nine. Frankie Bartow took the loss, giving up a run in the sixth inning.
This was a scoreless tie through the first four innings, as neither team was able to generate any offense. In the fifth, Milwaukee put a run on the board without recording a hit. Michael Crouse led off with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. With one down, he stole third, but the throw from catcher Ryan Lidge sailed past the third baseman, allowing Crouse to score. Chicago responded right away in the bottom half of the inning as Dylan Rosa drew a two-out walk and scored when Matt Bottcher followed with a triple down the line in left field.
Gregori Vasquez came out after five, giving up a run on two hits. He was replaced by Bartow, who gave up a Ben Livorsi home run to lead off the inning. The Dogs added a run in the eighth which proved to be crucial. Cody Bohanek walked and moved to second on a sacrifice. Payton Eeles then double just inside the third base bag for a double, extending the lead to two. Brian Schlitter came on in the ninth, and gave up singles to two of the first three batters. After striking out Crouse, Schlitter gave up a base hit to Gabriel Cancel, pulling Milwaukee within one. Trevor Lane took over for the Dogs closer, getting Drew Ward the ground out to end the contest. Lane earned his first save of the postseason. Eeles was the only player with more than one hit in the contest.
Goudeau Shuts Down Explorers
The Kansas City Monarchs evened their series with the Sioux City Explorers as Ashton Goudeau tossed eight shutout innings to lead the Monarchs to a 5-0 victory. Patrick Weigel got the final three outs of the contest to finish off the shutout. Mitchell Verburg to the loss.
Kansas City took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Jan Hernandez hit a solo home run. Two innings later, it would be Hernandez once again, hitting his second solo homer of the evening. The Monarchs blew this game open in the bottom of the sixth. Micker Adolfo reached on an error, driving home two runs, and Hernandez scored on a wild pitch.
That was more than enough support for Goudeau, who allowed five hits and no walks, striking out five to earn his second victory of the postseason. Hernandez finished with two hits, drove in two, and scored three times. Delvin Zinn had two of the five hits for the Explorers.
