Milkmmen, DockHounds Split, Eldred Dominates, Goldeyes Avoid Sweep

In today’s edition, Rob Pannier recaps the four games in the American Association on Monday, including the Lake Country DockHounds and Milwaukee Milkmen splitting a double-header, C.J. Eldred continues to dominate for the Kane County Cougars, and the Winnipeg Goldeyes avoid a sweep by defeating the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

Milkmen, DockHounds Split Double-Header
The Lake Country DockHounds scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning of Game 2 to help the team earn a split of their double-header with the Milwaukee Milkmen. Augie Voight allowed two earned runs in six innings to move to 5-1. Jojanse Torres gave up a run in the seventh, but still came away with his ninth save of the year.
The game was tied at one after four, but Lake Country took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Dustin Woodcock hit a two-run homer, his fifth of the year, and Blake Tiberi added an RBI double. Each team scored a run in the top of the sixth with Gabriel Cancel hitting his third homer of the day in the top half of the frame. Milwaukee was able to pull within two when Reggie Pruitt led off the seventh with his fourth home run of the year, but Torres was able to get the final three outs to close out the contest.
In Game 1, Kyle Mora allowed two runs in six innings to earn his seventh victory of the year. Peyton Gray closed out the contest, striking out the side for his third save of the year.
Cancel was the hero of this game, homering twice in the contest and driving in all four runs. He hit a solo home run to lead off the second, then added a three-run shot in the third.
Bourassa Grounds RedHawks
Landen Bourassa allowed one run in 7.2 innings to lead the Winnipeg Goldeyes to a 4-1 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Samuel Adames came on to record the final four outs for his 10th save of the year.
Winnipeg took the lead in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs. Miles Simington put his team on top with a sacrifice fly and a single by Jackson Smith plated two. The Goldeyes added one more run in the fourth on an RBI ground out by Dayson Croes.
The teams combined for just eight total hits, as Correlle Prime took the loss, allowing four runs in five innings. Three Fargo-Moorhead relievers each tossed a scoreless frame.

Eldred Blanks Saltdogs
C.J. Eldred continued his dominating streak, tossing six shutout innings to lead the Kane County Cougars to a 7-0 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. Eldred allowed three hits and three walks while striking out five to move to 6-5. It was the third straight start for Eldred where he did not allow a run.
This was a scoreless tie through four, but Kane County scored all the runs their starter needed in the top of the fifth when Todd Lott drove home two with a single. In the seventh, the Cougars extended the lead to three on another RBI single by Lott. Kane County added four more in the eighth thanks to a Hector Sanchez RBI single and a bases clearing double by Donivan Williams.
Three relievers finished off the shutout, with each tossing a scoreless frame. Lott finished 2-4 with three RBI and Williams also had two hits and three RBI. Lincoln recorded just three hits in the contest

This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named their Player and Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Kane County Cougars outfielder Todd Lott was selected as the top player. He was also selected by the American Association as well. It was a clean sweep for the Cougars as right-hander C.J. Eldred was selected as the Pitcher of the Week. The American Association selected Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks left-hander Kevin McGovern as their top pitcher… Kane County Cougars right-hander C.J. Eldred tossed six shutout innings on Monday. Eldred has now gone 22 straight innings without allowing a run and has gone 26.2 innings without allowing an earned run… Lincoln Saltdogs catcher Luke Roskam extended his consecutive on-base streak to 35 straight games. That is the second longest streak in the league this year.
